Matthew C. Wilson (b. 1982, USA) works in video (primarily), sculpture, and installation. In his work viewers encounter a range of agents—mercurial materials, human personae, non-humans, and inter-subjective entities—entangled in natural processes and shape-shifting historical forces. Wilson’s projects utilize research-based, site-specific, and methodologically eclectic approaches to track the path and inertia of Modernity through contemporary technological and climatological change and into speculative futures.
Wilson holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University and undergraduate degrees in Literature and Art/Design from NC State University. He has been a participant in the Whitney Independent Study Program and numerous residencies including Aalto University, Jan van Eyck Academie, Tabakalera, Terra Foundation, CSAV/Fondazione Antonio Ratti, and Skowhegan. His moving image work has screened on Vdrome.org, at IFFR - International Film Festival Rotterdam; the Eye Filmmuseum; Círculo de Bellas Artes Madrid, ES; Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro, BR among others.
Recent exhibitions include: puntWG, Amsterdam, NL; Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam, NL; Marres, Maastricht NL; GMK/Galerija Miroslav Kraljević, Zagreb, HR; Exhibition Research Lab, Liverpool, UK; The Brooklyn Rail Curatorial Projects, Brooklyn, New York, US.
