The artist Jake Singer, from South Africa , is our artist-in-resident from May 1st to July 31st.
Born in Johannesburg in 1991, Jake Singer is a multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, photography and installation.
During his residency Singer will be working in both photography and sculpture. He intends to look for "charged" objects, ie materials and surfaces that can be fragmented and reformed into new objects. Bring the work close to architecture and structural iconography the resulting pieces will evolve from researching Amsterdam; he will be using the city itself as a source of inspiration. A key aspect to Singer's research project at airWG will be to compare and contrast his South African identity with the Dutch one he finds during his time here, utilising the process of recontextualising old materials to display these oppositions.
